Padmé Amidala

Amidala, Queen of Naboo

Padmé Naberrie was born in a small mountain village on the beautiful world of Naboo. At an early age she was identified as one of the brightest and received special training as she was groomed for a higher station. When she was very young her parents, Ruwee and Jobal along with her sister Sola moved to Theed. Once there Padmé attended the best schools and was enrolled in the Refugee Relief Movement by age seven.

Padmé joined the Legislative Youth Program by the tender age of eight and became an Apprentice Legislator by age eleven. A year later she was elected to the mayoral office "Princess of Theed" and adopted a formal “name of state”—Amidala.

After thirteen years of rule, King Veruna abdicated the throne in a whirlwind of scandal and Amidala ran for office. In the race against Sio Bibble she traveled the country side giving speeches and winning over virtually the entire population of Naboo. Amidala won the throne at the age of fourteen in a landslide election that only lasted four minutes.

When she assumed office, the new chief of security, Captain Panaka insisted that she be taught self defense. She and the captain also selected five handmaiden to assist her with her complicated ensembles and to act as bodyguards. Amidala became good friends with the handmaiden Sabé as they worked out a form of cryptic communication so that Sabé could function as a decoy.

A short five months into Amidala's reign, the Neimodian controlled Trade Federation began a trade blockade of Naboo. She tried to avoid war by negotiating a solution to the conflict but the Federation invaded Naboo and seized control of Theed. Sabé and Amidala quickly switched places and Amidala became the anonymous handmaiden Padmé. When the Neimodians attempted to force Amidala to sign a treaty legalizing their invasion, Sabé, acting as Amidala refused and was sentenced to a prison camp.

On the way to the camp, Amidala's party was rescued by the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. While fleeing the planet the hyperdrive engines of the Royal Starship were damaged, forcing them to land on Tatooine for repairs.  In her guise as a handmaiden Padmé accompanied Qui-Gon into the city to look for parts.

The group ventured into a small shop and there met a slave boy named Anakin Skywalker. When a sand storm struck he invited them to stay overnight at his home. Because Qui-Gon had no money for parts, Anakin offered to enter a pod race in order to win money and repair the ship. With permission from his owner and from his mother, Anakin participated and won the race in an incredible show of skill. Qui-Gon made a bet with Anakin's master and winning the race also freed him from slavery. Anakin left Tatooine with Padmé and her company.

On Coruscant Sabé and Amidala switched places again and the Queen petitioned the Senate for assistance in retaking her world. When the Senate refused to take action, Amidala made the bold move of calling for a vote of "no confidence" in the current chancellor's leadership. As the Senate began looking for a new chancellor, the Queen prepared to return home and retake her planet once again accompanied by the Jedi and young Anakin Skywalker.

After returning to Naboo, Queen Amidala successfully made an alliance with the Gungans, a race traditionally ostracized by the humans of Naboo. Together the Queen, her handmaidens, the Jedi, and the Gungans defeated the Trade Federation's droid army. Sadly, Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn was killed by a Sith during the battle.

Amidala served as queen for the maximum of two four year terms allowed by the Naboo constitution. The people tried to amend the constitution to allow her to continue on as Queen, but she declined. The new monarch of Naboo, Queen Jamillia, asked Padmé to serve as the Senator of Naboo. As the Senate slowly became more and more fragmented, Padmé stood out as a beacon of reason through her outspoken nature.

During her time as senator, a Separatist movement rose and threatened the stability of the Republic. Standing by her pacifist beliefs, Padmé fought in the Senate for a peaceful resolution. Many senators supported creating a military force to protect and unify the Republic, but Amidala vocally opposed the Military Creation Act believing that it would lead to war.

Padmé's stand lead to numerous threats against her life, and she hid on Naboo until it came time to vote on the Military Creation Act. Extreme precautions were taken to protect her life for the return to Coruscant, including again using a handmaiden as a decoy. As feared, Amidala's ship was attacked on the landing platform on Coruscant and her decoy, Cordé and several of her guards and another handmaiden were killed.

Because of the attack on Senator Amidala, the vote on the Military Creation Act was delayed and she was placed under the protection of the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. After a second attempt on her life, Chancellor Palatine asked Amidala to return to hiding on Naboo under the protection of Anakin while Obi-Wan investigated the assassination attempts.

While in hiding on Naboo, Padmé and Anakin fell in love. Marriage is forbidden for a Jedi, and the relationship would be a danger to both of their careers. Instead of trying to have a romantic relationship and hide it from the galaxy, they decided to deny their feelings.

The rest is coming...I'm having writer’s block :)
